This amazing collection of over 10,000 handmade pieces are displayed in series of the great wars. See soldiers at war in jungles and deserts and the six metre long display of the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

See soldiers at battle in jungles and deserts with miniature tanks and guns. This amazing display includes the Napoleonic War, the American Civil War, the Zulu War, the Pacific War, the Russian War, World War 1 and World War 2.

The Rabbit Proof Fence

No1 Rabbit Proof Fence – the longest fence in the world!

In 1859, Thomas Austin imported 12 breeding rabbits from Europe to place on his property in Geelong Victoria. The rabbits were to be used for sport (hunting game) but they soon began to breed out of control. In 1901, a Royal Commission was held into the increasing number of rabbits hopping into WA from South Australia. The solution was to build a Rabbit Proof Fence. Construction began in 1902 and was completed in 1907. By the time of completion, many rabbits had already hopped into WA. Two more fences were built at taxpayers expense before the government realized it was a waste of time and money.

The original fence is now used mainly to control the movement of dingoes, emus and kangaroos. It runs an amazing 1837 kms and is the longest fence in the world. Running from Starvation Bay near Esperance to Ninety Mile Beach (East of Port Headland). 

A small section of the original fence is on display in the Miniature Soldier Museum. If you are driving on the Granite Woodlands Discovery Trail (Hyden – Norseman Road), you will cross the Rabbit Proof Fence 53 kms East of Hyden.

Burngup School

You can also visit the classroom of Burngup School. This school opened in March 1920, a wooden, one room, timber structure with a verandah. The number of students enrolled was seven. See how our original settlers enjoyed their school days with a class room displayed with original furniture from the era.

Yvonne’s Doll Collection

More than 100 dolls are on exhibit in the museum. Be sure not to miss the “Dolls of the World” collection. Have fun searching for the doll that represents your country. This collection was owned by Yvonne Mouritz and kindly donated to the museum.
